MATERIALS
Santa Barbara has an entirely unique and rich ecosystem within which thrive numerous constituent microclimates. One side of a ridge can be enveloped with ocean fog while the other side gets blasted with hot dry Santa Ana winds blowing off the mountains. Each property varies greatly depending on the geographic location as well as the requirements and desires of our clients. The design and subsequent materials used reflect these nuances.
In general, we want to incorporate plantings that are drought-tolerant and native. It is not a hard and fast rule, but we do our best to take our cues from the plants that thrive locally, no matter where the project is. We want the plants selected for each project to have purpose and import for that locale.
We want to bolster and support the environment. We want the materials and surfaces to feel in place. We respect and consider our materials, how they look, how they feel, and how they support our vision and the ecosystem.
